Understanding The “Claim Manta” scam

The “Claim Manta” scam operates through fraudulent posts on social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter). These posts, often created using stolen or fake accounts, contain links that redirect users to a deceptive website. The scammers behind the scheme lure individuals with the promise of free MANTA tokens and cryptocurrency rewards through a seemingly legitimate airdrop.

Actions and Consequences of the Scam

Upon visiting the deceptive website, users are presented with a detailed scheme outlining potential rewards for referrals and claiming MANTA tokens. The scam encourages individuals to connect their cryptocurrency wallets, claiming it is necessary for participation. However, this is a ploy to deceive users into approving a malicious smart contract.

Once the victim approves the malicious contract, a drainer is activated. This malicious script transfers the victim’s cryptocurrency funds from their wallet to the scammers’ controlled wallet. Unfortunately, cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible, making it nearly impossible for victims to recover their stolen funds.

Prevention and Removal Guide

  1. Be Skeptical: Exercise caution when encountering cryptocurrency giveaways or airdrops, especially through social media links. Verify the legitimacy through official channels.
  2. Check URLs: Scrutinize website URLs for authenticity. Legitimate cryptocurrency projects often have official websites with secure connections (https://).
  3. Wallet Permissions: Avoid connecting your wallet to unverified or suspicious platforms. Only use reputable cryptocurrency services and applications.
  4. Stay Informed: Keep yourself informed about ongoing scams and phishing tactics prevalent in the cryptocurrency space.

Best Practices for Prevention

  1. Security Awareness: Educate yourself and others about common cryptocurrency scams and social engineering tactics.
  2. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Enable 2FA on your cryptocurrency wallets for an additional layer of security.
  3. Regular Updates: Keep your software, browsers, and security applications up-to-date to patch vulnerabilities.
  4. Official Sources: Obtain information about cryptocurrency projects and airdrops from official sources rather than relying solely on social media links.
  5. Report Scams: Report any suspicious activity or scams to the respective social media platform and relevant authorities.

By staying vigilant and following these best practices, users can reduce the risk of falling victim to scams like “Claim Manta” and safeguard their cryptocurrency holdings from malicious actors. Remember, in the digital realm, caution is your best defense against evolving cyber threats.
